The Lord’s Prayer

Two Versions, One Message

The Lord’s Prayer was the first scripture that I ever memorized. It seemed important to know Jesus wanted us to pray. I memorized the version from Matthew. Both versions have the same message though. I think at the time I just liked the wording more in the Matthew version.

9 After this manner therefor pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Matthew 6:9 – 13

2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

3 Give us day by day our daily bread.

4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

Luke 11:2 – 4
